WHAT'S IN YOUR TROLLEY? GET MOTIVATED blog ed 26

You gotta love long weekends - especially Anzac Day long weekends. Have you read my post from last Thursday? If you are reading this and are not Australian or a Kiwi, check it out for sure. Just scroll down after you read this.

Personally, I loved the chance to spend time with my girlfriends family and my family after my brother returned home after spending 16 months working in Turkey.

It was great to catch up with him again, and yes... I even enjoyed a few beers too!

I was going to write about something else today but I've just got back from doing the grocery shopping and wanted to share this with you.

I was waiting in a long shopping line and after seeing the magazine covers of the womens magazines at the checkout (I wasn't really interested in why Britney looked fat in her bikini), I started checking out the contents of other peoples trolleys.

Call me nosey, but hey, it's my job to see what people are doing.

Anyway, this bloke in front of me was the anti-poster guy for what should be in your trolley.

Check out some of the stuff that was in there:

* Frozen Pizza
* Frozen TV Dinners
* Coke
* Dorito Corn Chips
* Tim Tam Chocolate Biscuits
* Tinned mushrooms

Where did he go wrong?

NO fresh fruit and vege, (tinned mushrooms don't really count for me) and plenty of stuff in a box

What's a better option?

Stick to the outsides of the store.

Fresh fruit and vege is always on the outside.

The only time I ventured outside of this was to get some nuts (unsalted of course) and seeds.

I was pretty happy with the contents of the trolley when I was at the checkout. No processed rubbish, no soft drinks, no chips, no stuff that is marketed as 'health foods' such as high sugar breakfast cereal.

As a side note, I got myself some rice porridge for my breakfast this week.

Pretty much as unprocessed as you can get - brown rice, some sultanas and dried fruit (not perfect) but that's it.

I got into it last week and it goes alright. Filling and tasty, especially when you throw on some Flax Seed Oil and fruit on top.

So, what's in your trolley?

I hope it is not the first option!

What's your excuse?

Get out and make it a great week!

LEST WE FORGET

Tomorrow marks 93 years since a bunch of Aussie and Kiwi soldiers - know as ANZACS - landed on foreign soil at Gallipoli not knowing the onslaught they were about to go through.

We were on a hiding to nothing.

These blokes were a lot younger than me, most of them still teenagers.

These blokes gave their lives so we can have what we have today.

I know I am thankful for their sacrifices.

That's why Anzac Day is more than just a public holiday.

It is a chance to reflect on what people sacrificed so we can have a better life.

I encourage you to take some time tomorrow and be thankful for what you have and for what those who came before us gave up.

I will be fortunate enough to visit Gallipoli in late May to pay my respects.

If you see an old digger at the pub, buy him a beer.

GET MOTIVATED WITH DPM PERFORMANCE blog ed 25

Did you back a winner in the Slipper on Saturday? I was riding Seebring home in that photo finish and luckily I got the biscuits.

On Friday I got the chance to check out what's new and happening in the Fitness Industry at the Fitness Expo at Darling Harbour.

Unfortunately, it seems to be the same old rubbish that gets pushed out every year.

All the big companies have their latest whizz bang gadget that can do everything for you, except make a coffee and give you true and actual fitness benefits that you will need in everyday life.

You should know by now that I am not a fan of the mainstream training methods and big fancy machines that don't do much for you.

Which brings me to the topic for todays motivation. I've been searching for some words to give you today and came across this from Ralph Waldo Emerson, the American Poet and Author.

Now, I don't normally go for words from the field of arts, but why not give you something different.

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail”

I like this one.

I hope it inspires you to do something different.

I know that is the path I am on with my training business. I hope you can follow Ralph's words in your chosen field.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

If anybody saw the news yesterday, one of the outcomes from the 2020 summit was the proposed tax for fatty foods.

My 2 cents worth:

What a great idea. I really hope the politicans go through with this and have the guts to implement it.

Time and time again, we keep hearing that parents can't afford fresh food to give their kids.

Price fast food out of the struggling persons budget and there is no excuse!

I'm all for it.

Anything that stops the cruelty of letting your child become another obese Australian will get my vote.

There is no excuse for not eating fresh and healthy. Plain and simple.

GET MOTIVATED WITH DPM PERFORMANCE blog ed 24

Last week I had a few challenges to get through.

I found out a family member has some health issues to deal with. The next day my computer died on me and left me dry. To get the trifecta I had a car accident on the way home from my last session on Monday night.

While it was a challenging three days, I knew I couldn't go round kicking the can all week and whingeing about how tough life is.

I figured, in the scheme of things, that they are all minor issues that should not get in the way of where I am heading.

Sure, it was frustrating, but it wasn't the end of the world.

People have to go through a lot more harder issues than that on a daily basis.

This was a speed hump I had to get over, not a mountain the size of Everest.

Why I am I relieving last weeks incidents for you?

Everyone has tough times.

Sure, I could do without all of that happening at once.

The beauty is how you deal with the situation.

You can turn it up and sulk and say the world is conspiring against me.

Or you can shrug your shoulders, dust yourself off and get on with life.

So in the spirit of things, I found these words from platform speaker Cavett Robert:

"If you don’t think every day is a good day, try missing one"

Pretty spot on right?

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Do you want to know the secret to living an extra 10 years?

An article from January 2008 shows a UK study that suggested not smoking, being active, eating enough fruit and vegetables and drinking only moderate amounts of alcohol can increase lifespan by an average of 10 years compared to people who do none of these things

Yeah, I know I'm not giving you any ground breaking information here.

It just goes to show how simple it is to increase your life span.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it all out.

Eat good, live clean (or cleaner than you're living now) and you can enjoy the extra 10 years with your kids and grandkids.

The report says "By focussing on four simple health behaviours, as a combination, the researchers hoped to motivate people to make the small changes that can make a big difference to their lives".

Don't think it's worth it? Try going and asking someone who has been given months or weeks to live if they'd like an extra 10 years here!

GET MOTIVATED WITH DPM PERFORMANCE! blog ed 23

Friday night I had the pleasure of being a guest at the Steve Waugh Medal for the NSW Blues and Breakers player of the year awards.

It was an awesome experience to be in the same room as many past and current legends of cricket - Richie Benaud, Bob Simpson, Mark Taylor to name a few, and my all time favourite player - Steve Waugh.

The awards were scooped by Simon Katich, who if you have been following the domestic cricket season at all, you would probably know that he had his best season ever scoring over 1500 runs in the 4 day version of the game alone.

To put his season into comparison, the bloke that polled 2nd in the medal count failed to score even half the amount of points that Katich did.

Why am I telling you all of this?

If you have no interest at all in cricket, don't drop off to sleep yet, there's a powerful lesson to take out here.

Katich was dumped from the Australian Test team about 3-4 years ago.

People thought he was washed up. Well the so called experts did anyway.

But someone forgot to tell Simon Katich that he was a has been.

He is no spring chicken (in his early 30's, so not long to go in his career) but he refused to give in.

He worked his butt off to have a season like that.

He broke record after record in season 2007-08, even scoring 300+ runs in one innings.

Last week he was rewarded with selection in the Australian team for their overseas tour coming up.

How's that for persistence?

Put in the hard yards, no matter how many people write you off and Simon Katich is living proof that the rewards will eventually come your way.

Powerful lesson indeed.

What's your excuse when you feel like quitting?

LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT EXERCISE - MEDICALLY PROVEN!

No, unfortunately this is not a late April Fools joke.

Unfortunately, it is a sign I saw this morning as I was driving along Victoria Road.

It seemed to be a physiotherapists practice.

It is a shame they are misleading the average punter out there.

I am sure they will get plenty of interest from people out there looking for the quick fix, without putting in the hard yards.

These would be the same type of people who have an Ab King Pro and the Thigh Blaster gathering dust under their bed.

If you are a regular reader of my blog, by now, I am sure that you know the best way to lose fat and improve fitness is through resistance training combined with interval training for your cardio sessions.

Unfortunately, nothing in life will be handed to you on a platter.

Even your fat loss.

So, there is no magic pill you can take.

There is no vibrating machine or belt that will blast away your body fat.

Train your body and your mind by getting the best benefits out of your interval training program.

Your mind gets stress relief and your head gets clearer with the exercise.

Your body burns the fat and builds your muscle, so you look nice and toned.

Enjoy the exercise and enjoy the rewards that it gives you!
