How Can the Wallabies and Cadel Evans Help Your Fat Loss Success?

Saturday night was a television feast. The Bledisloe was on at the same time as the Swans were getting pumped and as soon as that finished the Tour de France time trial as on.

During my Saturday night on the couch I witnessed 2 examples of the power of team work.

First up, the mighty Wallabies got one up on the All Blacks in the 1st Bledisloe test this year.

And we didn't just win, we touched them up.

Power of Team Work Lesson Number 1: Strength In Numbers

The Wallabies defense and scrummaging was much improved on previous seasons and their backs worked together pretty smoothly when they had the chance, meaning a well-oiled overall team performance

The second example occurred during the penultimate stage of the Tour de France.

I sat up late to see our boy Cadel go for the Maillot Jaune in the time trial.

Unfortunately Cadel couldn't make up the time difference that he was after. He only got 30 seconds out of the 95 that he needed to get the Yellow Jersey.

Why did this happen to the guy who was the standout favourite before a km was ridden?

It is all about the Power of Team Work Lesson Number 2: You're only as good as the other people surrounding you.

Cadel's main rivals in the tour were both from the CSC team.

They had the strength in numbers that I mentioned earlier. They worked as a team when Cadel had the yellow jersey last week and worked hard to break his back during the tough Alp stages.

Cadel's team, Silence Lotto, couldn't stand the heat. The poor bloke was left riding solo which is equivalent to taking on an army by yourself.

You just can't expect to win.

All the energy he spent keeping his rivals at bay in the second week cost him in the last week.

The fact was Cadel was just too good for his team mates to keep up with, meaning they couldn't help him when it counted.

So, what can we all learn from these 2 sporting examples?

Everyone needs a support team to help you achieve the fat loss results that you are after.

People on that team include your partner, your colleagues, and me. You need to have them pumping up your tyres when you are feeling flat.

You need them to encourage you and compliment you on your fat loss success to date.

Only then will you get the fat loss results that you deserve.

What's your excuse?

Sunday Arvos and Six Pack Abs

I spent a great Sunday catching up with some mates from school that I have not seen for a while.

They all have kids nowadays so we don't see each other as much as we used too but it's cool to catch up and see their kids growing up.

Now I want to remind you about my Body Transformation contest that I want you to enter, so I found this quote to help kickstart the people that are already signed up for the challenge:

"Tell me what you say you want, show me one week of your life and I will tell you if you will get it" - Author and Keynote Speaker Patricia Fripp

For those who have not entered, you still have time to get on board, but remember the challenge has already started.

You don't want to give your opposition too much head start.

I've also got another 2 resources that can help you get where you want to be as part of this DPM challenge.

Those of you who have been doing my sessions lately have noticed that there seems to be a lack of crunches in my programs of late.

Some of you have asked why?

I want to burn my belly fat so why aren't we doing crunches?

Well truth be told, the more research I see, the more I am shying away from the crunch.

Truth be told, it just can't burn belly fat like other exercises that I love like Squats, Deadlifts, Push Ups, Chin Ups or Recline Rows.

The other thing is the amount of stress that is placed on your spine when you perform crunches.

Most of you spend your entire day sitting down where your spine is compressed already and to come and train and have a lot more stress on your spine through crunches just doesn't seem to make sense right?

So what's the best resource for a crunch free workout?

I've found this new program for six pack abs that my mate Craig Ballantyne is releasing today.

Burn Stubborn Belly Fat goes live at 12midnight EST. You get Craig's motivational secrets, plus SEVEN fat burning ab workouts.

The launch special includes 3 months free membership to his exclusive Turbulence Training Members site which is worth your investment alone.

Burn Stubborn Belly Fat

Finally, something else that was brought to my attention over the weekend, another guy I met in Florida last year, Brad Pilon, celebrated his birthday on Saturday and wanted to do something special.

You see Brad is known as the anti diet guy. He hates the fad diets and the traditional way that most people look at nutrition. He has created a controversial program Fast Fat Away where he created the program for those who have tried everything else but have failed.

To tell you the truth, this is not for everyone as it involves fasting for 1 day a week but if you want to try something different give it a shot.

The results speak for themselves.

7 WAYS TO GET MOTIVATED FOR YOUR WORKOUT

I found this great article from Craig Ballantyne of Turbulence Training fame and thought you might appreciate it.

By: Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, MS

www.TTworkouts.com

There will be days (everyday?) when you don't feel like doing your workout.Sometimes you don't want to get out of bed.Sometimes you don't want to leave your office because you feel like there are too many deadlines (but this is when you need a workout the most!).

Sometimes you don't want to end story time with the kids only to head down to the basement gym.It even happens to me.But I knew how I'd feel like a million bucks after the workout. And in the end, I know I can't let myself become "soft" and start skipping workouts.

I have to lead by example. But if you are set on achieving a goal, then when it's workouttime, come heck or high water you've got to bear down and do the job.

So here are 7 ways to get motivated for your workout and to get you inspired to get through your workout.

1) Reward yourself. Finish your workout and treat yourself to a magazine, a TV show, some extra time with your family, some new songs for your IPOD, or even a little extra time for yourself.

2) Or set up a punishment for missing workouts. Skip the workout, put $20 into a jar to spend on home repairs. Make sure your spouse controls the jar.

3) Review your goals everyday and every night. Keeping your goals fresh in your mind will help you stay on track.

4) Realize that the hardest part of the workout is often getting your butt to the gym. Once you get 5 minutes into the workout, you will be over the hump. So tell yourself, "I'll just go in and do 1 set of the first 2 exercises, then I can go". Next thing you know, you'll have done the entire workout.

5) Visualize yourself doing a great workout and finishing strong. Get yourself mentally prepared and you will literally have better workouts each time.

6) Crank the tunes. Seriously, nothing motivates like music.

7) Get social support. If you have a workout partner, you'll feel like crap if you let them down. Or become accountable to everyone in the Turbulence Training workout forums...if you don't post your workouts, they'll track you down and demand to know why you've fallen off track! So online or offline, get everyone on your side!

Now get out there and kick the fat to the curb,

IT'S CHRISTMAS IN JULY AND YOU GET THE GIFTS!

Before I get into the giving of the presents, I just want to tell you about a trip down memory lane I had today.

We were at my Nan's house and I got to see 2 of my cousins (and one of their little girls) who I don't see a lot - one lives in New Zealand and the other in Griffith. So it was great to see them.

But the reason for mentioning this is because my sister was cleaning up and found an old video from my Nan and Pa's (who is no longer with us) 50th Wedding Anniversary.

It was from 17 years ago, and it was funny to see me with hair and wearing my Parra jersey.

But the real cool thing was spending the time with my extended family and laughing about how daggy we all looked (good old early nineties fashion was missing something I think!) and just enjoying each others company.

I hope you got the chance to do the same this weekend.

Anyway, let's get down to business.

THE INNAUGURAL BODY TRANSFORMATION CONTEST!

I hinted to this in my blog posting recently. I got fired up about the state of our nations expanding waist lines and decided spur of the moment to run my first ever DPM Performance Body Transformation contest.

So, after putting myself on the line, I thought I better back it up!

After a week of thought, I’ve even decided to put my money where my mouth is!

Yep, 1st prize will get some of my hard earned cashola!

1st Prize:
• $250 Cold Hard Cash!
• 3 Group Training Program vouchers – valid for any 3 group sessions that I run (Saturdays, Pulse, Kaizen, Ultimate Fatblast etc) – valued at up to $720 depending on which program you choose)
• An advanced, preview, copy of my upcoming internet release Aussie Fatblast Secrets Success Manual – which will be released in September – valued at $49.47 USD
TOTAL VALUE: $1020

2nd Prize:
• 1 Group Training program voucher – valued at up to $240
• An advanced, preview, copy of my upcoming internet release Aussie Fatblast Secrets Success Manual – which will be released in September – valued at $49.47 USD
TOTAL VALUE: $290

3rd Prize:
• An advanced, preview, copy of my upcoming internet release Aussie Fatblast Secrets Success Manual – which will be released in September – valued at $49.47 USD
TOTAL VALUE: $50

So, I’m going to call a few people out – first names only, you know who you are. I’ll be disappointed if I don’t see your entry.

• Jason
• Eris
• Rob
• Stacey
• Claire
• Sue
• Gav
• Megan
• Lou
• Sandra

That is just off the top of my head. Just because your name isn’t on here, it doesn’t mean I don’t want to hear from you.

Got a wedding you want to get ready for?

Want to get that summer body shape before the spring panic starts?

Then don’t be a wallflower.

Sure, this could all backfire in my face and no one enters.

Or I may have just one person who enters and then it really isn’t a hard race to win is it? Maybe that person doesn’t even stick it out to the end.

RULES:

1) You must be currently training either individually or in a group training session with me

OR

2) You must be doing online training with me

OR

3) You must be doing one of the following recommended internet training programs by a DPM Performance preferred trainer – I know these people personally, and can vouch for their training program quality:

- Turbulence Training by Craig Ballantyne
- Truth About Six Pack Abs by Mike Geary
- Fit Yummy Mummy by Holly Rigsby
- Lift Hard Play Hard by Dr Kareem Samhouri
- Your Six Pack Abs Quest by Vince Delmonte

4) Take your measurements (or get me to do them in one of our sessions). Sites to take are -
- Chest (guys only): from the nipple line
- Waist: from the belly button
- Hips: Widest part of your hips
- Right Thigh: Standing with your arms by your side and taken from where your thumb is (someone else will need to do this for accuracy)
- Weight: Measure at the same time of day for accuracy. Weight is included but will not be the deciding factor – difference in measurements and body shape appearance will be the
-

5) Take a before and after photo for social proof – It doesn’t have to be a swimsuit shot, but you don’t want to be dressed up in your winter woollies. You might be able to win without the photo but it will definitely boost your chances if you have one.

6) Write a short essay documenting the changes you have made in your diet and lifestyle and how the changes have improved your quality of life – e.g. not getting smashed every Saturday night like you have done for the last 3 years, being able to run around with your kid, gotten off blood pressure medication, lost 10cm off your belly, whatever.

7) You don’t need to drop 30 kilos to win. I want to see the person who transforms their life from where they are currently. It may only be dropping 5kg of scale weight but losing 10cm off a certain body part. It might even be staying the same scale weight but dropping a clothes size and replacing your burned body fat with new and lean muscle. It may be seeing your abs that you couldn’t see before. You name it. The person who will win will be the person who makes the BIGGEST LIFE CHANGE!

8) The contest starts on MONDAY 14 JULY and runs for 12 weeks. You can enter after this date but the cut of date for entry is THURSDAY 31 JULY

9) Entries close on MONDAY 6 OCTOBER – 12 weeks from the start date. If you choose to take the challenge you need to stay on track for 12 weeks and I can guarantee you will have the body you want by the time the weather is getting nice and warm!

All you have to do is email me by 5pm Monday 29 September, 2008 to enter with your social proof and essay.

OK I’m in, what do I have to do?

Email me – Daniel@dpmperformance.com.au to register your entry.

That way I can follow up with you and send you further details as they come to hand.

Get to work. Take your measurements. Take your photos. Select your training method of choice.

I made up these rules as I was going along, so if you think I’ve missed anything let me know and I might have to add it in.

The judge is me and my decision is final. This is not a legal document so let’s not get fancy. Let’s just change our bodies and our lives.

REMEMBER: SPEED OF IMPLEMENTATION is the key to you changing your life. Don’t say I’ll start tomorrow or next week after so and so’s wedding. Say bring it on, I’m starting today!

If you’re not sure where to start, email me and let me know. We can have a chat and decide what type of program will be best to kick you out of a winter slump!

This is the perfect kick up the backside if you have stopped training during winter, or been in a bit of a rut lately.

You will get the chance to change your body, get your hands on some of my cash and some other great training prizes.

What’s your excuse?

WOULD YOU LIKE A BACK INJURY WITH THAT?

Sometimes I see things in my job that excite me - such as someone finally losing the body fat that has been troubling them for years or being able to do a push up on their toes when they have convinced themselves that they could not do so.

Sometimes I see things in my job that motivate me - such as someone overcoming adversity to achieve something they never thought they could.

Sometimes I see things in my job that just make me cringe and feel for the poor bugger that is the victim.

Take this morning for example.

I was doing one of my Ultimate Fatblast Experience sessions at Observatory Hill and there were a few other groups on the hill doing their regular sessions.

I see the same trainers all the time.

Some are great.

Some of them make me sick and I feel sorry for the people who are in their class.

I don't say this to make me sound superior to everyone else out there.

I am confident in my job and know that if I am giving you something - it is the right way.

I say this so that people like you who may have been in these bad situations can realise that not everyone is a cowboy.

We actually watch what our clients are doing.

We actually show them correct form.

We actually make sure you will not be doing your back in and seeing a physio for the next 6 months.

So what was it that I actually witnessed?

There was a group doing some fitness drills and 2 people were doing swings - one of my favourite exercises.

What horrified me was that the trainer was standing right next to these 2 people watching them as they bend forward to an almost parallel position to the ground.

Gee, I could almost hear their vertebrae screaming in protest as it was crunching and compressing all the way throughout the movement.

While a swing is a superb exercise (one of the best) for targeting your butt, hamstrings and even strengthening your lower back muscles - the whole posterior chain of your body, it is essential that correct form is practiced for every movement.

I may sound like a broken record sometimes when I am showing my clients how to do these but at least you are doing them right, and more importantly, you will live to train another session with your back intact.

Seeing as most of you reading this spend your days at your desk in an office, your lower back is a precious area.

It has the strain of being compressed all day while you are sitting without adding to it during your training sessions.

If anyone happens to stumble across this article and are not one of my clients, make sure that your trainer actually shows you the right way to do a swing and if something doesn't feel right then chances are it isn't!

To see how a swing should be performed correctly, please view the video below.

THE WAR ON FAT KIDS - ARE YOU ARMED?

As you may have seen in the news on Saturday, preschool children as young as three will have to participate in compulsory exercise sessions of up to two hours every day.

If you missed it, you can find it here

What are my thoughts on this?

I think fantastic, bring it on!

It is a shame that it has come to the stage where kids HAVE to be told to exercise.

I remember when I was a young fella, I loved nothing more than kicking the footy or having a hit with the cricket bat before being dragged inside every day.

You couldn’t keep me inside if you paid me.

But times have changed.

At least this is a step in the right direction.

As I wrote on here recently, I think it should be considered child abuse when parents let their kids get fat.

There is no way known why a kid who hasn’t even started school is overweight or even obese. That is just plain and pure neglect and child abuse on the parents behalf.

If they are too lazy to get their kids the right type of foods than take the choice away from them and make it compulsory at preschool.

At least at that age kids can be taught that exercise is fun.

Even star jumps! Yep, one of my perennial favourites was mentioned as one of the activities. I think it’s great to see the young tackers getting into this at an early age.

Also getting kids running around and playing games, including ball games will no doubt help them burn off their excess calories caused by bad parenting.

The only downside I saw in the proposal was that they were pushing that the kids drink low fat milk and watered down fruit juices.

Obviously the people writing these recommendations have not read my Aussie Fatblast Secrets Revealed report.

In this controversial report I mention the lies that we have been told about low fat foods all these years and the evils of fruit juices.

Your not feeding this to your kids are you?

Anyway, if you are going to have any juice at all, it should be freshly squeezed 100%straight from the orange. If it’s in a bottle than it is too processed and too much sugars.

Why do you think the dental health of kids these days is in decline? But that's a story for another day.

So, my recommendation to add to their good start is to give the kids water only.

May be boring. May be plain.

But nothing is better, or cheaper, then a good old glass of H20.

I look forward to seeing these policies being put into action in the coming months.

What do you think about the report? I am interested to hear your thoughts in the comments section below.
